My dog, who recently passed away at age at 17, was seven years old, when we adopted him from the animal shelter.
I have nothing bad to say about this animal shelter at all.
My dog had been used for breeding but after retiring had been locked in a cage for a long time by a bad breeder. He has never been taken for a walk and the confinement to the small cage resulted in a deformed spine and extremely weak hind legs. On top of this, he was malnourished which caused poor eyesight (he later went blind completely) and bad teeth. He was about to be euthanized, because he couldn't be used for breeding anymore, when Canfel rescued him.
You described the former owner as a bad person. I have a different experience. She brought the dog from Himeji to our house, which was more than a two-hour drive away, in order to be able to check the condition of the dog's new house and family before handing him over. She also showed a great compassion for dogs, not only for the dog I took in but also for the other poor pets for whom she cared intensely. I am very grateful to the people at Canfel.
You mentioned that they charge money to keep cats in their care, but you will find no shelter organization that will take in a pet brought in by an individual. I remember looking for an animal shelter for a kitten which I had rescued. All the shelters are full to the brim with unfortunate kittens which were left over by retired breeders and collapsing multi-cat households. On top of that, they are struggling to raise money for their operations.
Every shelter in the country usually refuses to take animals from private owners.
If you think about it deeply, you will understand the reason why the staff asked for 50,000 yen to take in the animals.
Wherever you go, you will have to spend $20,000 for pets which are spayed, neutered and vaccinated.
There are many different opinions, but please, please help them to give new warm homes to as many pets as possible. I would like to invite you to visit this facility as well.
Lastly, I am not affiliated with this facility.
